That's awful! D:<

What jerk steals other people's artwork? I mean seriously. Making profit off of other people's work is just wrong. This pisses me off.

It should be asked that people fav the pictures of the stolen work, especially that first one with the explanation as part of the deviation. If enough people fav it, it could help word spread faster.

-w- again ... freaking b.tches ! gawd how I hate them, there are bunch of those guys on other websites writes at the corner of an stolen artwork "from blablabla to me" or comments from the one who posted it :" Copyright :___<-thief's name" pfffft -_- makes me wanna punch them, dont think facebook or photobucket will do something against it, saw an artwork from one of my favorite DA artist in a contest for some stupid game, some random grim reapers, 5 or 6 artworks, totally not look alike, (the person posted 5-6 for the contest) and all were stolen and the DA artist's artwork got 1st place pissed me so off, reported at the support site of the game, they totally ignored it, and the thief ACTUALLY EVEN won the 1st place rewards bleh makes me wanna puke

Ugh seriously, looking through this stuff makes me sick to the stomach. Seriously. I mean, first of all, artists don't get paid shit unless they make it big. They sure as hell can't make it on art alone. To know that an artists work has been sold without them getting profit is horrible.
Second, this makes me not want to buy things from anime conventions. Because who knows where they got it? Who knows if they actually have permission to be selling these things? And the really sad part is, no one would ever know! Unless the artist of one of these pictures just happens to come along and see it, no one would ever know and then nothing would ever get resolved.
You guys should report this to whatever authorities you can. Art theft is still theft, and it ain't cool.
I hope this issue is resolved soon, I'll be keeping track of your updates (:

Has anyone contacted the anime cons to warn them by giving the link to this journal and a explanation? That probably would help because then if they are on there exhibiters list they'll be getting questions from the con itself...

I don't know just a thought. I know the Anime North 2011 in Canada is already taking on actions to people selling false badges. I dont see why they wouldn't look into something like this.

Thank you for the advertising! It's just awful to steal art like this... Maybe the despoiled artists should coordinate their actions against those who stole their work.

33.3 ciel's art was stolen!? how can we stop this? i hope you sent some kind of letter or complaint to them already because 2 artists' art that's been stolen seems like enough evidence to at least mention it to them.

Wait... I've kinda been hearing about this for awhile, but it can't possibly be that store I think it is... D8
I've gone to it a few times and they have tons of buttons and stuff (wait, a long long LONG time ago, we went there together once?)........I thought they had the permission to do all this? They've been around for..like...years upon years. . 3.

You know what really sucks? They can't be prosecuted unless it's in the same country D:

May I ask a question?

When it says the words "Found" in the evidence, does that mean that they found the artist?

It sounds like getting into contact with other artists will be fairly easy enough if we can find them... now the rest...

How much evidence do you need before conventions will be able to ban them?

I don't know how much I can do in the US but I'll try to find people and get into contact with them about their purchases?

And just in case, I'll keep an eye out at Artist Alleys on the East Coast for similar cases. I remember being suspicious of one table at NYAF but I misplaced their business card.

If you see Ciel's works then you definitely know something is up. It's so so SO rare to find her works outside of Korea or Japan and most of the prints and books are limited edition. Actually almost every single fanartist's work (that hasn't done actual commercial work) is hard to get outside of the country and limited edition.

It's so messed up that this has been happening since it ends up discouraging artists overseas from sharing their artwork outside of their conventions and from interacting with people worldwide.

I'm not sure how much evidence we need, but I'm hoping to not leave them any room for slipping away with lies.

And thank you! That would help a lot. I don't go to East Coast USA at all so I don't know if they sell there, but having someone on the look out is great. :)

They might lie more T_T but hopefully we'll be able counter them.
I was googling around and maybe you already saw this but someone posted on a forum that they could be using a legal loophole regarding site user agreements.

"There is a site which users post their own art to the site but in the user agreement the site gets to use the art. So basically the site will sell the art to company's to use and they can sell it at conventions and at their own stores but aren't allowed to sell them online."

Honestly I don't think that they actually bought it from any site but there's a slight chance they might use this "loophole" (if it actually is an actual loophole) and say it to defend themselves.

so any progress on "hunting" down the jackass who's stealing and selling the art?
Or with the conventions?

Wouldn't the convention have this guys contact number?
I mean i'm sure there is some form one must fill out to be able to put up a stand and sell stuff right?
if you can show the convention proof, they might help =o

Well, yes, we have ways of contacting him, but we're waiting to catch him in person and talk to him about all this.

As for contacting conventions, we're working on gathering evidence at the moment. That means finding photos of that company's merchandises and locating original artists.

:icontiase:
Tiase Featured By Owner Dec 26, 2010  Hobbyist General Artist
Oh i see.
I just don't think there is any point to talking to him in person.
I mean the person obviously knows what he is doing is not legal, and he drove people away that were taking pictures of his stand. I can imagine if you confront him he might try and dispose of the things, but oh well, you'd know best i guess =o

Do you need to find every artist?
I mean 1 or 2 is maybe not enough, but if you find a couple more, wouldn't that be enough to proof he's stealing other peoples work?
I hope the police will do something =A=

Dude, targetting foreign artists, what sneaky bastards. D<

I don't remember seeing this place at all last time I went to Splendid China Tower. Only went the one time though. :/ Maybe it was already closed?actually is it the place you mentioned when we went to p-mall before?

Hopefully alerting the cons works out. >_<; 'cause I'm thinking unless you've got not just evidence but a lot of people pushing for it, most of them probably won't even care. e__e

You know its people like that, that take away the light from the real artests ya know. Its bs to take the real artiest off the picture and paste their own f'ing name instead. As ive always said people like that should be dragged out in the street and shot to make an example of them.. But that's just me. I know i use other peoples art but i ask before i edit it in anyway and if i cant find the artiest who drew it i state that i didn't draw it, but only take credit for what i did and if anyone knows who drew it to let me know their name so i can get ahold of them to make sure its ok like this GEoManga should...at lest contact the artiest and give them most of the profit for selling their art..

The sad thing is that we can't do very much, because they would just set up shop somewhere else. It's not fair that these artists have worked so hard, and now their art is being sold without their knowledge or permission.
